We’re a few months into 2017, and successful athletic trainers like you are ironing out your budget for the rest of the year. This is the time of year you’re finalizing big purchases and determining the investments you’ll need to make to keep your athletic program excelling into 2018. But with so much exciting new technology hitting the market, and so many types of innovative equipment available, how can you choose? More importantly, how do you know which athletic training equipment will yield the biggest return?
To help answer these questions, we’re breaking down our top three tips for making the best investments.
1. Take a Detailed Inventory of Your Facility
The first and one of the most important things you can do is walk through your facility and carefully consider each and every piece of equipment. Assign each asset a label of “new,” “meets expectations” or “must be replaced.” This will help you better prioritize which pieces of equipment must be replaced immediately.
As you review your inventory, be sure to consider how often each asset is used. For example, you may want to prioritize replacing treatment tables you use daily over a piece of exercise equipment only used a few times each month.
2. Seek Out Multi-Purpose Items
One of the best ways to get the biggest bang for your buck is to invest in athletic training equipment that serves more than one purpose. For example, you could invest in one modality unit that provides electrical stimulation, one that provides heat therapy, one that provides ultrasound therapy and one that provides laser or light therapy. Or you could invest in a single modality unit that offers all of these types of therapy.
While multi-purpose items may be more expensive than single-purpose items, you’re eliminating the need for multiple purchases. (And this helps save space, too.)
3. Keep Athlete Expectations Top-of-Mind
A steady stream of rising athletic stars keeps your program successful. And regularly exceeding the expectations of athletes is essential to meeting your goals. So it makes sense that when it comes to investing in athletic training equipment, you’d consider what athletes want most. In many cases, athletes (and their families) want to see equipment that’s updated and offers the latest and greatest in rehab innovation. They want to be sure your program will help keep them performing at the top of their game, and ensure the facility has everything necessary to nurture their athletic career.
Making investments for your athletic training facility is critical to your program’s ongoing success. By prioritizing your expenses, investing in multi-purpose equipment and focusing on exceeding athlete expectations, you’ll ensure a sustainable future for your athletic training facility.
